The New Guy, 12 hours in

12 Hours old

He arrived yesterday, early evening.  His sire is a Nubian, dame is an Alpine mix.  So far, he’s doing well.  No name yet since we’re waiting to make sure he makes it.

UPDATE 18Feb2010:

Little guy is doing well.  Checked on him this morning and all seems fine.  Mom may not yet be producing enough milk for him, but it should start coming in better anytime now.  So then, he should start plumping up.

    Still no name?

How many goats do you think you can raise at your place? Are any of your goats intended for sale to others? Or for the dinner table?

He’s been named Pete by our eldest daughter. As for Pete’s future, I’m not sure. We may wether him, or keep for stud service. His sire’s line has good milk genes, but the dam side is questionable. So, the jury’s still out.
As for food, I don’t think I could sell that idea in our house.

LOL Yes, that idea is a hard sell in some quarters. That’s why I’ve given away so many chickens the last few years. No one here wants to eat “Buffy” or “One-eyed Jack”, etc. 🙂

Yeah, and baby goats are actually much cuter than chickens! 🙂
