Uncreatvie Laura mentioned a passage from Peter the other day. I’ve only recently stumbled on her blog and do enjoy her posts. The familiarity of this passage made the elegance of the ESV even more pointed. And it was brought large to me on the small screen tonight.
A relatively new family tradition is an occasional movie night. Lately, it’s been Shirley Temple movies. Tonight, it was our wedding. Watching the eight year old video was interesting, exciting all over again, and hard to watch. In the last eight years, Laura and I have lost five family members: my paternal grandmother, my father, my Aunt Shirley, and both of her paternal grandparents. Seeing them over again, live and large, made me think of what has transpired in the last eight years, and how God is very evidently working through us. Three moves, three children, five pets, gain, loss, tornadoes, hurricanes, hip deep snow, power loss, sickness, a stolen car. That’s the short list, off the cuff. Through it all, God has provided. God has worked, just as He promised through Peter, that “though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith…may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:6,7).
A glorious promise that brings comfort to my soul, knowing that God is there, even if it looks like the Valley of the Shadow of Death. Thank you, God.
Solo Deo Gloria,
